North Wales Weekend Sat 13th to 14th May
The weekend will start by meeting at the Park & Ride, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll LL61 5YR at 10.00. Cars can be left all day here for a small amount. We will start the day by travelling the short distance to Penmon Point Lighthouse. We will explore different compositions, making the most of the great foreground rocks that provide a lovely lead in to the lighthouse. We will also experiment with the use of filters to create wonderful ethereal long exposure images. We will then head to South Stack lighthouse to photograph this very imposing, wild location from a number of vantage points. The final location will be Newborough Beach and Llanddwyn Lighthouse. Newborough offers lots of photographic opportunities as we walk towards the lighthouse. I will bring my converted infrared camera for you to use as there are some great spots to shoot IR on the dunes. We will aim to be at the lighthouse on Llanddwyn by tea time (bring a packed lunch) to be ready to photograph this iconic location at sunset. Please note there is a fee of £3 to access the car park at Penmon Point and a fee of £5 to access the car park at Newborough. The rocks at Penmon point are uneven and can be slippy when wet and some are covered with seaweed so some form of grippers attached to wellington boots or walking boots are recommended.
Sunday will begin at 9.30 in the car park of the Ogwen Snack Bar, Bethesda LL57 3LZ. The workshop will start with a leisurely walk past mountain waterfalls with expansive views over the Glyders to Llyn Idwal and the Devil’s Kitchen. Depending on the fitness level of the group we can then progress a little further to photograph two lovely lone trees jutting from the rocks above the lake. We will then head nearby to the Ogwen falls which cascade down the mountainside into Llyn Ogwen. There are tremendous views of the Llyn with Tryfan in the distance. It really is a magical view with lots of compositions to choose from. We will then travel to Llyn Gwynant to photograph some of the spectacular mountain scenery from the banks of the lake. If we have time before we visit our final destination we can visit the atmospheric, ruined slate miners cottages above Llyn Peris. These make for a great composition, particularly if shooting Infrared. Our final location will be the iconic Llyn Padarn lone tree for sunset. The footpaths we will be following are uneven and can be slippy when wet. I would recommend some form of grippers attached to wellington boots or walking boots to provide grip. The ground can be boggy in wet weather. There are some uphill sections but they are mainly on gentle gradients. The day will incorporate using ND filters, (graduated and stoppers) for traditional landscapes and for long exposure photography. I will bring spare sets of Lee filters for participants to use.
Lunch arrangements – bring a packed lunch. Please bring: warm clothing, spare trousers to change back into in case you get wet, wellington boots, grippers for the boots, walking boots.
