Devon and Dorset Residential Workshop Sunday 15th to Friday 20th October 2023
This workshop is a hotel based workshop staying in two different Premier Inns. The first location we will be near Bridgwater, Somerset. This will allow us easy access to Burnham on Sea and Weston Super Mare to take advantage of the high tide for the first few days of the workshop. The workshop will begin by meeting at Burnham on Sea Lighthouse at 07.00 to catch the incoming high tide. Then to Weston Super Mare and Burnbeck Pier and Wells cathedral to photograph the Chapter House steps and cloisters. On Monday we will head towards Torquay to photograph the lone tree at Babbacombe and we will then travel to Lyme Regis to photograph the Cob.
On Tuesday morning we will leave our accommodation near Bridgwater and travel along the Jurassic Coast towards Chesil Beach and Portland Bill (perhaps stopping at Kimmeridge Bay if the tide is at the correct height). Ultimately we will be heading to our next accommodation location in Bournemouth. This is only about 30 minutes from locations such as Corfe Castle and Old Harry’s Rocks so we will be in a great position to shoot some of the great locations that Dorset has to offer such as Durdle Door, Kimmeridge Bay, Swanage Pier etc.
Due to the early start on Sunday you may need to book into accommodation for Saturday evening. We will be staying at the Bridgwater Gateway Premier Inn which has easy access to the M5.T
his will be a great location in which to explore the fantastic photographic opportunities that Dorset has to offer including attractions such as Old Harry Rocks, Swanage, Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge Bay, Moor Crichel, Durdle Door and Man O’ War Beach. Staying nearer to the photogenic locations means we will be able to explore them at the optimum times of the day, sunrise and sunset.
As well as being guided, with a fantastic ratio of up to 6 clients to one workshop leader, you can also rest assured that you will be able to spend lots of time working on a one to one basis to not only capture some fantastic images, but more importantly to further your skills. Whether you are a beginner who needs to learn some of the more technical aspects of exposure, depth of field and filters, or a more advanced photographer who wants to really hone their compositional skills, your needs will be catered for. Places are limited to six clients to ensure plenty of tuition during your visit. The workshop fee includes single en-suite occupancy quality accommodation (no meals are included), full tuition during the day and post processing sessions in the evening. Technical skills including the use of filters for dramatic effect will be explored. This will cover neutral density filters to slow the shutter speed creating atmospheric water movement, graduated neutral density filters to balance the exposure between the land and sky, and extreme ‘big stopper’ filters to create wonderful movement in the clouds and water. Technical aspects will be explored including achieving accurate exposure using the manual setting of the camera along with making creative decisions regarding aperture and depth of field.
A deposit of 50% of the workshop fee is required to secure your place, this can be paid by direct bank transfer. Complete the online Booking Form to reserve your place. Terms and conditions can be found on the booking form.
