I have been asked a number of times to plan and deliver a workshop in the South West of England and having a gap in my workshop itinerary I decided to put one together. I spent a good number of years living in Taunton, Somerset, the gateway to the West Country so I have a good knowledge of the area. We will be staying near Tiverton, just off the M5, this is a great location with good road links to explore the area in all directions. Most of the locations are no further than an hour and a half drive away. Given that sunrise and sunset times in November are at a reasonable time we will be able to make the most of the light at these optimum times of the day.
I have deliberately planned this workshop to coincide with a particularly high tide during the early part of the week so we will get the chance for some great long exposure photography on Sunday at Burnham on Sea and Weston Super Mare spending sunset on the spectacular Kilve Beach.
We will spend another day travelling West to Hartland Quay, Crackington Haven, Boscastle and Tintagel (1 hour 45 mins away) exploring this incredibly wild coastline aiming to be on location at Hartland Quay for the incoming tide at sunset. A trip to the South West wouldn't be complete without a visit south to Lyme Regis to photograph the Cob and its environs including the delightful little villages of Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton.
On the final day we will head South East to Corfe Castle for the early morning November light, hopefully with mist surrounding the castle (well you can dream!) on to Swanage Pier for some long exposure action and then to Durdle Door to photograph the iconic arch finally ending the day photographing the wonderful rocks at Kimmeridge Bay with hopefully a glorious sunset! We may finish the workshop on Thursday morning by visiting Clevedon Pier on our route back.
As well as being guided, with a fantastic ratio of up to 5 clients to one workshop leader, you can also rest assured that you will be able to spend lots of time working on a one to one basis to not only capture some fantastic images, but more importantly to further your skills. Whether you are a beginner who needs to learn some of the more technical aspects of exposure, depth of field and filters, or a more advanced photographer who wants to really hone their compositional skills, your needs will be catered for. Places are limited to five clients to ensure plenty of tuition during your visit. There is the possibility of shared cost return transport from Preston, Lancashire (limited to two clients). The workshop fee includes single occupancy quality accommodation including cooked breakfast, full tuition during the day and post processing sessions in the evening. Technical skills including the use of filters for dramatic effect will be explored. This will cover neutral density filters to slow the shutter speed creating atmospheric water movement, graduated neutral density filters to balance the exposure between the land and sky, and extreme 'big stopper' filters to create wonderful movement in the clouds and water. Technical aspects will be explored including achieving accurate exposure using the manual setting of the camera along with making creative decisions regarding aperture and depth of field.
There really is no better way to develop your craft than by 'getting out there and doing it'. I will provide you with a friendly, fun and informative workshop experience that will, I am sure, leave you with some memorable images to add to your portfolio. Partners who do not wish to participate in the photography tuition are welcome at a reduced rate. Complete the online Booking Form to reserve your place. Price £695
